Thing #1

It is Saturday night and I was going to work on my homework. I am a little frustrated because I worked on Thing #1, Thursday night. Now I am unable to see what I typed; wonder what I did wrong that it don't gave. Hope this one works. If this post gets void too, I will start to wonder if I should really be taking this class.

When I read some of the posts, it was so insightful to read about the ladies that I have know for two and a half years and realize that I really don't know much about their lives outside of work. I realize that, I am a difficut person to get to know. I am very private and I hate to talk about myself. I have always been in awe of people how can talk and make you feel as if you have known them already a lifetime.

Doing this class and reading about how 2.0 is used in everyday life, it really does make me feel as if I need to get "with it". My husband and I have never been comformable with letting our kids do "myspace" or texting. In fact is has only been the last year that we bought a cell phone and that was so my daughter could get in touch with us going to college. We thought that she would need it with all the driving she had to go to once she got acceptbled in the Radiology program.

My son is using a "pay as you go" phone. He is frequently saying that it doesn't work when he needs it. I think he just wants something fancier like a lot of his friends.

This will be a new adventure for me. Hopefully, I will handle it with grace/

You will be just fine in this class, no worries. I am still way behind in the cell phone area, no photo capability and I just learned to send text messages. Jump in, we are all there to support each other.

I agree with Linda, all will be fine. Working in the schools as we do, we are lucky to have our fingers on the pulse of the youth culture. That gives us insight that a lot of parents don't have. Working with this class will give me more tools to be able to better ascertain what is (or is not) appropriate technology for my boys.

I am totally lost already, and felt frustrated all day. I think it will take me quite a while to get comfortable in this new world, but I am eager to learn.

Our topics tomorrow won't be quite so overwhelming. Keep posting your questions...I will try to leave answers when possible. We will spend some time in class reviewing. Don't be hard on yourselves...this is a new thing, and all new things have a learning curve. I think everyone is doing great. Sometimes, it takes awhile for the lightbulbs to come on, but they will come on. :o)

My boys are on the "to go" plan on their cell phones. I buy them 1000 min a year ($100 card). They can text on that, but it uses minutes. Anything over 1000 min, they pay for! I got thier phones off ebay rather than the expense of ones at the kiosk, and I don't have to extend my plan to get the "deal". This is my "deal" with them!
